Where’s the consumer with money? Step One

Part 1 – watch for the rest of our series.

Are you looking for consumers with disposable income? You may want to target the medical industry. According to projections of the future, many of the highest-paying jobs in the country on average will be in the medical industry. Not only do these jobs project positive job growth and steady income rise, their job stability rose to well above the national average throughout the recession.

That means that while everyone else economized, individuals in these positions were able to maintain their old spending habits and therefore have not reset their mindset. These individuals should be easier to sell to in 2011, while the other, more cautious buyers will postpone large purchases until their bank accounts recover.

If you are not currently targeting this consumer, you will want to start. For more information on alternatives to get your information in front of more consumers with money, visit our website for strategies or give us a call and schedule your FREE 30 minute consultation. See if our advisors don’t impress you with their knowledge about the goals you have set for marketing in 2011. Remember 2011 is the year that smart companies will recover if they are wise enough to change their strategy to adjust to new mindset of consumers.

Tailor-Made Advertising is awarded WMBE Certification

WMBC CertificationTailor-Made Marketing and Advertising has been awarded a WMBE (Women and Minority Business Enterprise) Certification by the California Public Utilities Commission. Although Tailor-Made has been in business since 1988, the same year as the certification program started, they only recently applied for the formal certification in hopes of qualifying for Utilities contracts.

The certification program came about in May 1988, when the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) issued General Order 156 (GO 156). Under GO 156, the CPUC required all investor-owned electric, gas, water and telecommunication utility companies with gross annual revenues in excess of $25 million and their regulated subsidiaries and affiliates, to develop and implement programs to increase the utilization of WMBEs. Procurement goals of 5% for women and 15% for minorities were initially established, and later expanded to include a goal of 1.5% for service-disabled veterans. Certification of eligible suppliers was designed to encourage, recruit, and utilize WMBEs by participating utilities. You can confirm Tailor-Made Marketing and Advertising’s certification at the Clearing House website.

Benefits of registering and receiving certification:

  • Official recognition of your Women- or Minority-owned business enterprise (WMBE) status
  • Promotion and visibility to the CPUC and sixteen major utilities
  • Involvement frequent marketing and bid announcement events
  • Faster contracting processes

By participating your company is identified as an eligible, certified supplier in a centralized database used by many utilities to search for suppliers and when matched with a purchasing requirement, your certification speeds the contracting process.

Reddit Beats Digg for #1

Reddit and Digg are social news aggregator sites where users can post online content they find or they create, and other users essentially rank or rate these postings.

Reddit, founded in 2005 and owned by Conde Nast, has a simple user interface, as is its algorithm for promoting news items. Users can choose whether they want to “up” or “down” any given content, and that’s basically how rankings are determined. Furthermore, in 2008, Reddit’s founders released the code and the site continues to be open source – a valuable attribute to many of the most-active internet users.

Reddit administrators report a 230% increase in pageviews between January and December 2010. Digg, on the other hand, had 200 million pageviews compared to Reddit’s 250 million. Digg’s noticeable decrease in traffic is attributed to the poor reception of the release of Digg Version 4, which was unsearchable at its release and did not have many of the features users had come to enjoy. Subsequently, Digg lost many of its loyal users.

As far as marketers are concerned, this is an important change to how you integrate social media into your website. Do you use an “add this” widget? Make sure Reddit is featured so that Redditors can easily share your content with their community. Content that get promoted is typically interesting, funny or controversial – but most importantly, it is well-written and accessible.

There are several social news and news aggregator sites, in addition to social networking sites, and it can often be overwhelming to manage your online presence. It is always helpful to know which sites are most popular and most effective. Need help staying up-to-date with social media? Contact us.
